The story

A brave frog, a wise toad, and relics that should probably stay buried

Hop into the charming and unusual world of Frogbound. From the placid pond to the intricate mysteries below and above this strange world, you will slay countless enemies and uncover the cryptic secrets of the enigmatic old wizard toad.

Sir Hopper is young, brave, and armed with a sharp blade. His mind may not be as sharp as his weapons. He will discover a dark conspiracy, face twisted horrors and empty husks of his brothers, and he will keep slaying, because slaying is always the answer.

Right?

Play your way

Three relics, three entirely different frogs

Sir Hopper masters the sword, the bow and the arcane arts, but his true power comes from the relics. Each one rewrites how you move, fight and explore.

The Sextant

Grants the deadly bow. Pick off foes from a distance, then use your own arrows as stepping stones to climb walls and gain newfound freedom.

Role: ranged · vertical movement

Scroll relic pixel art

The Scroll

Tap into the arcane and let surplus mana carry you: float through gaps, propel yourself higher, and unlock unlimited power, the famous double jump.

Role: magic · air control

Broken Sword relic pixel art

The Broken Sword

Become an unyielding bulwark. Mighty slashes rend dungeon foes apart, with devastating charged attacks and a rush move that propels you through levels.

Role: melee · mobility

The world

Three zones, one very long fall

The journey runs from the sunlit Pond, down through the Prison, and into the Sewers where something has been waiting for a frog like you.

Zone 01 · tutorial & upper world

The Pond

Willow trees, warm water and the first real lessons about spikes. The Wise Toad is somewhere around here.

  • Spawning Pools
  • Willow Forest
  • Eolith Passage
  • Ancient Fissure
  • Wizard's Lair
  • Atlas Heights
  • Twilight Hollows
  • Let there be ribbit

Zone 02 · mid-game · boss: Minotaur

The Prison

Chains, torture chambers and the smell of bad decisions. The Minotaur closes this chapter.

  • Prison Gateway
  • Torture Chambers
  • Corridor of Anguish
  • Prison Tower
  • Chained Chamber
  • Slave Pens
  • Chaos Chasm
  • Minotaur's Cove

Zone 03 · final · boss: Evil Sir Hopper

The Sewers

Stinky cloacas, toxic mazes and the Relic Tower, where the fallen hero is waiting.

  • Sewer Hall
  • Rat's Passage
  • Stinky Cloaca
  • Mire Bridges
  • Arcane Spillover
  • Toxic Maze
  • The Last Trials
  • The Fallen Hero

Bosses

Two fights, zero mercy

The Minotaur guards the way out of the Prison. Big axe, small patience, decent manners for a monster.

Evil Sir Hopper is the final boss: a mirrored, meaner version of you. It switches between sword, bow and skull-tossing sorcery depending on how close you are, and it knows every trick you know. Beat it, and a certain achievement pops.

Questions

Frog-quently asked questions

What kind of game is Frogbound?
A 2D pixel-art platformer adventure with light metroidvania structure: three big zones, abilities that open new paths, secrets, bosses and a lot of optional cruelty from the level design.
What platforms is it on?
Windows PC via Steam, and itch.io. A charity browser build, the Games For Love arena, is free to play on this site. There are no console versions. Sorry, frog fans on Switch.
How much does it cost?
€3.99 / $3.99 on Steam. On itch.io it's cheaper (pay-what-you-want-ish). The archived browser build costs exactly one click.
What languages does it support?
Ten in-game languages: American and British English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Romagnolo, Japanese and Chinese. Yes, Romagnolo is a real language. Yes, we translated the whole game.
Controller support? Achievements?
Full controller support on Steam, and keyboard works great. 19 achievements, some of which require actual skill.
Does it autosave?
No, and the game will tell you. You save by spending collected gold at designated save points (the ponds). Save often.
Is it still being updated?
Yes. It's our debut commercial game and our ongoing project: we keep polishing it and adding play modes.
